EPC and EPC Global

The Electronic Product Code™ (EPC) is the electronic successor to the bar code. The EPC contains information about the manufacturer and the type of object, just like the traditional bar code. In addition to this information, it also contains a specific serial number that relates to the particular object being monitored, which makes the EPC unique to each item. Because the EPC can hold such detailed information, it is central to the application of RFID tags on the CC Container.

EPC/RFID offers many advantages. RFID doesn’t require line of sight recognition, so you can embed tags into objects, thereby protecting them from the wear and tear that damages the traditional bar code labels. Also, the reading distance is longer than for bar codes.
